Synopsis

In a dystopian future, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place 64 years before the events of the original Hunger Games trilogy. The story focuses on a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), the last hope of his once-proud family, which has fallen on hard times in a post-war Capitol. As part of the 10th annual Hunger Games, Snow is assigned to be a mentor, and his fortunes seem to change when he's chosen to mentor a tribute from the impoverished District 12, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). However, the assignment is viewed as a humiliation, as District 12 is considered the lowest of the low. During the reaping ceremony, Lucy Gray captures the attention of the Capitol audience by defiantly singing and creating a stir involving a snake. Snow, seeing an opportunity to improve both their situations, begins to connect with Lucy Gray and mentor her, hoping to turn the odds in their favor within the brutal competition where tributes fight to the death. The film follows Snow as he navigates the cutthroat world of the Capitol and the challenges of the Hunger Games arena, all while battling his own instincts and questioning whether he will become a compassionate "songbird" or a tyrannical "snake". He forms an unexpected bond with Lucy Gray, and they work together to survive, hoping to win the games and secure a better future for the both of them.
